Ice Age Art

I visited the Ice Age Art exhibition at the British Museum and didn’t know really what to expect. But I came away awe-inspired,  it’s hard to comprehend the fact that you have just seen the oldest art work in the world, Lion Man at 40,000 years old, found in a cave in Germany, he stands 29.6 cm high and is made of mammoth ivory.   Striking is the fact that the objects in the exhibition are so small, hand carved and would have taken hundreds of hours to complete.  Lion Man took 420 hours to carve.  These artists must have had patience, dedication and made the time to produce these beautifully carved objects.   Particularly striking were the swimming reindeer, full of vitality and life.
